The power of networking
Sharing, supporting each other, extending oneself, opening new horizons, searching out new ways to help yourself by connecting with another

My example of networking came to me randomly as I was reading about the struggles farmers go through.

We support a butcher who is I guess is semi rural. When I drive to visit one daughter I always have to go past him so I decided to get bulk meat for the family on the way through for daughter or on the way home when buying for myself. I always SMS daughter before I come over to check if she needs meat as she doesn’t drive this way in business hours. We would mainly purchase chicken breast, amazingly cheap legs of lamb and if asked he will butterfly the meat by carving out the bone which I then use for soup. At times bulk mince, bulk rump steak and lamb chops. All are way cheaper than the big supermarkets….and his legs of lamb are THE best…so delicious and tender.

Now the networking connection I learnt recently is that this butcher has a contact at a country farm quite a few Kms away, maybe a five-hour drive. So he has cut out the middle man and is helping himself AND the farmer.

Then we learnt of the next networking connection. Our daughter’s local semi rural IGA independent grocery store now sells meat from this butcher….again a plus for everyone.

Times are tough but people can work together for the benefit of all.

We can help each other just by being there for someone, or we know that mummy X is really good at doing Y so she can help mummy O….so many ways of social interaction to provide needs whether of succour, support, deeds or things.

Let’s find ways to network with those who need or find ways for our own needs. In return hopefully we will find a mutual benefit.

Help is more than just caring….

  1. I have been running my own business now for about 18 months, and I have really learned a lot about the power of networking during that time. It is amazing how often the random conversations or meetings with people (not paid work) that then turn into an opportunity for me, or one I can pass on to another – and everybody benefits!

  2. LOL I read this post at the wrong time as that one picture made me very hungry :) Deb from Homespun / Frugal Little Bungalow

Your post reminded me of a popular blogger that people often reach out to then they have troubles and then she sends out a prayer request! :) Her blog is called Nana Diana Takes a Break…usually very funny ! :)

  3. Gorgeous photos! And reminds me of how I grew up in rural NZ :)

  4. I love this. I admit I often think of networking in terms of computer stuff, but yes originally it was much more personal. Thanks for the reminder. Xx

  5. Beautiful images…that lamb roast, wow! I love networking and our local permaculture group is a great way to learn who does what around here and a lot of it is a ‘barter’ which is so simple and old-fashioned. It’s great to know where your meat at the IGA is coming from…ours also stocks local.

  6. Love this and is a great reminder to us all. I really want to help struggling farmers because they work so hard to provide us with food and yet they don’t get much from the money we spend at supermarkets. I also love buying handmade items as gifts because it supports a mum trying to make an income and is often a well received gift because it’s been made with love. Thanks for this wonderful reminder about networking. :)

    • Yes Bec, networking …outside of the business and computer world is a new take on old fashioned helping and supporting each other.
      Thanks for visiting x
